In a proud moment for Zimbabwean fashion, local designers Ishmael Tsakatsa and Abiot Malawa dressed the visiting Miss Universe, Sheynnis Palacios, in magnificent designs. Tsakatsa’s fashion business, Zargue’sia, and Abiot’s label, Nandi Larethi, have sparked global interest with their distinct designs.
Miss Universe looked stunning at a welcome dinner in her honor, dressed in a Zargue’sia-designed white gown made of national fabric. The beautiful dress accentuated the beauty of Zimbabwe, eliciting appreciation from those who attended the event and all who saw it on the internet.
She wore a chic safari costume designed by Nandi Larethi while exploring Victoria Falls. The costume seamlessly matched flair and the spirit of adventure, displaying the designers’ ability to create world-class fashion.
Sheynnis’ exposure in these creations has surely elevated Zimbabwean fashion to the global scene, demonstrating that indigenous designers have the aptitude and ingenuity to compete on a global scale.
Observant social media users noticed that Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Sakhile Dube, did not have the option to wear national attire during the ceremony. “But, ma’am, our own is not dressed in Zim material?” asked Kumbula Kuyaziwa on social media.
Critics urge the Miss Universe Zimbabwe board to ensure that Sakhile represents her country in a variety of ways, including through the national fabric.
This follows Madam Boss’ example of boldly representing her country at the Grammy Awards with a dress made of national cloth.
Sheynnis and her colleagues, who have enjoyed Zimbabwe’s hospitality, will depart on Saturday, August 24, following a successful familiarization visit.
