Magaya did not heal me: Soul Jah Love
By Munashe Rungano
Award winning Zim dancehall artiste Soul Jah Love has said his healing was solely God’s grace dismissing general belief that he credited his relief to Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) leader-Walter Magaya.
In an exclusive interview with Showbiz before his performance at a gig in Cape Town at the weekend, sought to clarify the issue of hid healing.
“The prophet simply told me to lift up my faith and leave the rest to God, I followed that instruction and the next thing l felt a sudden change. From that day l am getting better and better as you can see for yourself,” said Soul Jah Love posing as if to prove his fitness.
He added: “Many things have been said about me receiving healing ku PHD but zvese ndezvekudakuwisirana pasi. Anyway it’s a norm in society whenever a good thing happens instead of celebrating, people focus on bad things. As much as l honour Magaya for ministering the miracle but it was all God’s work.”
He went on to say people had gone as far as saying his visit to PHD was a planned attention seeking gimmick refuting the allegations as mere attempts by his enemies to tarnish his image and that of Magaya.
“I never imagined myself getting prayed for one day worse still attend a healing session at PHD but it was until one of my childhood friends who is based in Waterfalls convinced me to try as my health state was worsening. We arrived at the church unannounced to the effect that the congregants were shocked that Soul Jah Love was in attendance. So zvekuti ndakabhadharwa mari ndinotoshaya zvakabvanepi. So was l paid to get diabetes too? Some allegations are senseless,” he quipped.
Despite having done two gospel like tracks, the Highfield bred artiste said nothing had changed on his beliefs and re-assured his fans that his guns were still aimed on Zim dancehall.
“Those tracks were a token of appreciation to the Prophet for taking me in and ushering my miracle. Whether l change my path it’s between me and God but l believe my calling is in entertaining a thing that l have been doing from day one. I am not a gospel artiste but when necessary l can sing depending on what’s happening in my life,” he said.
Turning to his relationship with Zim dancehall diva, Bounty Lisa the chanter said his main concern for now remained his health and career avoiding questions on the estranged relationship.
A source within his camp however said the chances of the two lovers getting back together were next to zero.
“The two are acting stubborn l would say. None of them is willing to budge into the others requests. It’s unfortunate without sacrifice and complementing each other on shortfalls, marriage is a dream never to be realised,” said the source.
As if to validate the claims Bounty was nowhere to be seen near the venue despite the fact that she had a show in the same vicinity the following night.
Soul Jah Love also took the opportunity to assure Sungura and Zimdancehall fans that his collaboration with Sungura ace Alick Macheso was done and dusted. He said the track was done at Macheso’s Chitungwiza studio under the tutelage of veteran producer Bothwell Nyamhondera.
“I think they are just waiting on the right time to release the single otherwise we finished recording months back,” he said.
On stage the singer gave a spirited performance leaving fans clamouring for more. The show which was fairly attended saw fans mobbing the chanter’s car on arrival jostling to get a glimpse of the star.
Cape Town based upcoming artistes warmed the stage before Soul Jah Love jumped onto the stage with Fya Linx on the turn tables.
Oga Sawara, the show organiser was all smiles at the break of dawn saying the gig went according to plan and would be more than happy to engage the artiste for future gigs.
