Tom Ssekamwa, a twenty-four-year-old Ugandan national, was seized in Masvingo after being discovered in possession of a variety of lula lula toys, which is against Zimbabwe’s stringent entertainment control and censorship laws.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police received a tip on Thursday, August 1, 2024, that led to Ssekamwa’s arrest.
The tip indicated that Ssekamwa was in possession of these forbidden commodities at the Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo.
Ssekamwa is accused of violating the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act, which forbids the importation and selling of adult toys into the nation, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
He was arrested right away when the cops allegedly found a men’s lubricant and several lula lula toys among his possessions.
Ssekamwa appeared for the first time at the Masvingo Magistrates Court, where he is awaiting the outcome of his bail hearing, which is set for today.The stringent application of Zimbabwe’s censorship rules, which have in the past resulted in the arrest and punishment of people involved in comparable violations, is once again highlighted by this occurrence.

Stephanie, the daughter of Zimbabwean businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, was detained in 2016 for selling adult toys, but no charges were brought against her. This episode is also noteworthy.
The recent apprehension of Tom Ssekamwa highlights the continuous endeavors of Zimbabwean authorities to enforce rigorous regulations controlling the ownership and dissemination of adult entertainment items within the nation.
