Love, nostalgia and timeless Zimbabwean music filled the air on Saturday night as Marceline Janyure, popularly known as Marcy, and her band The Black Things delivered a soulful Valentine’s Day performance at Sherwood Golf Club.

After a day of hither and thither, as lovebirds across the city exchanged gifts and serenades from roaming guitarists and saxophonists, many couples chose to wind down under the stars at Sherwood. The venue became a haven for romantics eager to bask in music that celebrated love, memory and togetherness.

The evening was expertly guided by DJ Elroy, who served as master of ceremonies and kept the mood warm between performances. From the opening notes, Marcy and her band transported the audience into a golden era of Zimbabwean music, blending old-school melodies with modern Afro-fusion rhythms.

Regular patrons and first-time visitors alike filled the dance floor, swaying to yesteryear classics with rich romantic lyrics that perfectly matched the spirit of Valentine’s Day. Many said the music took them back to their heydays, moments of young love, handwritten letters and late-night dances.

The venue itself was transformed into a romantic retreat. Red and white flowers lined the venue, heart-shaped balloons floated above the crowd, and themed trinkets completed the décor. The ladies made the night even more special, stepping out in elegant outfits that reflected the significance of the day.

Dressed for the day in a flowing elegant red gown and an afro, Marcy paid tribute to several Zimbabwe’s musical legends by performing songs from the late Marshall Munhumumwe and the iconic Oliver Mtukudzi among more, drawing loud applause from the crowd. She also treated fans to her own original music, including her popular Afro-fusion track Ndofara, which celebrates gratitude, love and resilience.

Award winner Marcy Janyure is a multi-talented Zimbabwean Afro-fusion artist known for her soulful voice and ability to blend traditional sounds with contemporary influences. She rose to national attention through live performances and collaborations, and continues to build a strong fan base for her heartfelt storytelling and stage presence.

The show ended just before midnight, with the audience reluctant to leave. Smiles, laughter and lingering embraces filled the night air as couples slowly made their way home, happy, fulfilled, and already wishing the party had lasted a little longer.
