On charges of preventing a probation officer from entering their residence, a Marondera magistrate recently found eight members of the Assemblies of God-Spiritual Movement (AoG-SM) not guilty.
Brian Muchemwa went to the police on April 25 after being denied contact to his three children, all of whom are members of the church. The incident caused the police to examine the church grounds.
The individuals named in the indictment were Stallon Chakasviba (23), Tadiwa Mutisi (18), Anesu Takunyai (18), Tamirirashe Chiwade (16), Ngoni Zinyama (58), Farai Maisiri (44), Prisage Maisiri (32), and Luckymore Zinyama (58).
Magistrate Ashton Dube heard their case on December 12, 2024.

The eight members were found not guilty by the magistrate because he found that the police had done their jobs well.”The children were taken to the police and the probation officer managed to interview the children,” the ruling read, stating that “government officials who visited the accused’s place of worship achieved their objective.”
As a result, the assumption that the defendant obstructed the probation officer was rejected. While praising the defendants’ cooperation with law enforcement, the magistrate found insufficient evidence to press charges.
