Mary Mubaiwa, the ex-wife of Vice President Constantine Chiwenga, has undergone a leg amputation, a complication of her severe health issues.
This comes after her hand was amputated in September 2022. Mubaiwa remains hospitalised, struggling with recurrent abscesses and acute lymphoedema, which had progressed to gangrene, necessitating surgery.
Despite previous attempts to save her limb, it could not be salvaged. The courts’ refusal to release her passport, preventing her from seeking urgent medical treatment abroad, has drawn attention to her critical condition.

Mubaiwa has not been in good health for years. She has struggled to attend court sessions, often arriving by ambulance and experiencing health issues during hearings.
She is admitted to a private hospital in the capital. Mubaiwa is represented by her lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, who was devastated when contacted for comment by Newsday.
She said, “There is really nothing to say,” as quoted by Newsday. She continued, ‘We hope to find closure on this one day.”
Mubaiwa has had a long history of court cases. The former model often sleeps in the dock, a testament to the extent of her pain.
