First Lady, Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, has praised mbira music players for preserving the country’s cultural heritage and promoting unity. Speaking at the inaugural Bira Rembira Festival in Harare, Dr. Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of upholding Zimbabwean identity through music and art.
The mbira instrument, recognized by UNESCO as a sacred traditional instrument, has been celebrated globally since its inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020.

Dr. Mnangagwa acknowledged seasoned mbira players and manufacturers, including Tendai Gahamadze and Albert Chimedza, for their contributions. She also commended artists like Jah Prayzah and Diana Mangwenya Samkange for promoting mbira music.
The First Lady highlighted the therapeutic and cultural significance of mbira, saying it reminds Zimbabweans to respect their way of life and elders. She also praised President Emmerson Mnangagwa for emphasizing the need to preserve cultural heritage.
The Bira Rembira Festival brought together mbira players, arts promoters, and cultural activists to celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich cultural identity. Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa encouraged continued efforts to preserve and promote Zimbabwean culture.
