Mia le Roux made history by being the first deaf contestant to win the Miss South Africa title.
Just one week has passed since the 28-year-old Capetonian was crowned Miss SA, and she is still adjusting to the enormity of her victory.
She had to overcome doubt and prove herself to others, but she wants to use her platform to encourage greater inclusivity and representation for people with hearing disabilities and to inspire others who share her experience.
Le Roux won R1 million in cash, a new apartment, and a brand-new Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupé as part of her rewards.
She intends to use her position to promote captions for TV news broadcasts and increase public awareness of the difficulties the deaf population faces.
