The Ministry of Health and Child Care has adjusted the prerequisites for General Nurse Training, catching many off guard.
Previously, prospective candidates were mandated to have passed Mathematics, English, and Science with a minimum grade of C or higher to qualify for nurse training.
However, in a recent update, the Ministry has eliminated the need for O’Level Mathematics as a prerequisite for General Nurse Training.

This departure from the long-established requirement was brought to light through an announcement for the May intake, where Mathematics was conspicuously absent from the listed criteria.
As per the details disclosed in the announcement, applicants are now only required to have a minimum of five O’Level subjects, with passes in English Language, a Science subject, and three other subjects.
Notably, practical subjects like Fashion and Fabrics, Metal Work, Graphic Art, Art, and Woodwork are explicitly disregarded in the count.
This decision by the Ministry reflects a shift towards prioritizing proficiency in English and Science subjects for nurse training eligibility.
It paves the way for a more diverse range of candidates to pursue nursing careers within the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The updated criteria outlined in the announcement for the three-year Diploma Nurse Training program mark a departure from the traditional academic prerequisites, potentially increasing accessibility to nursing education for aspiring individuals.
