Real Madrid extended their lead atop LaLiga with a 1-0 victory over Sevilla, courtesy of a stunning curling strike from veteran midfielder Luka Modric. The win sees Madrid maintain their unbeaten streak in the league, now standing at 20 games with their last loss dating back to September.
The match appeared to be heading towards a draw until Modric, at 38 years old, unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box in the 81st minute, leaving Sevilla goalkeeper helpless and sealing the win for Madrid. Despite Sevilla’s protests for offside, the referee allowed the goal to stand.
Earlier in the game, a goal by Lucas Vazquez was overturned by VAR in the 10th minute, leading to frustration from Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and resulting in a yellow card for him.

While 37-year-old Sergio Ramos made his return to the Santiago Bernabeu after 16 seasons, it was Modric who stole the show with his exceptional performance.
Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde also had a notable game, hitting the post and crossbar in the first half, while Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo came close to scoring as well.
The match was preceded by a minute’s silence in honor of the victims of a recent apartment block fire in Valencia.
In other LaLiga action, Xavi’s revamped Barcelona side secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Getafe on Saturday, with Joao Felix and Raphinha among the scorers in their climb to second place in the league standings.
