Memory Moyana, a 20-year-old from Mabvuku, recently appeared before the Harare magistrates’ court accused of fatally assaulting her four-year-old daughter. The case, reported by The Standard, has captured public attention.
Magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu ordered Moyana to remain in custody until January 2, 2025. She was advised to seek bail through the High Court.
According to prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu, the events unfolded on December 16, when a neighbor, Lorraine Makore, allegedly witnessed Moyana whipping her daughter.

Later, Makore saw the child emerge from the house with visible injuries, including bruises on her chest and mouth, as well as bloodstained clothing. Concerned, Makore confronted Moyana about the assault.
Following the confrontation, Moyana reportedly took her daughter back into the house. Tragically, this was the last time the child was seen alive. Later that day, witnesses claimed that Moyana and her husband were seen carrying their daughter’s lifeless body to consult a prophet. The prophet reportedly declared the child dead, prompting a police report and Moyana’s subsequent arrest.
