Nqobizitha Moyo A 25-year-old man from Nyamandlovu, who launched a violent attack on his cousin before setting fire to property valued at US$14,000, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison by Bulawayo magistrate Matthew Mutiro.
Nqobizitha Moyo, admitting guilt to charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property, will serve an effective 15-year term, with five years suspended on the condition of good behavior.
Regarding the charge of malicious damage to property, Moyo received a four-year prison sentence, suspended on the condition that he compensates the complainant, Ishmael Mlilo, with the sum of US$14,047.

The court was informed that on November 16 last year, at approximately 6 pm, Moyo and Mlilo were at Glencurah business center when a disagreement arose between Moyo and Mandla Ncube. Mlilo intervened to defuse the situation, which angered Moyo. In response, Moyo struck Mlilo on the head with an axe.
Following this altercation, Moyo proceeded to Mlilo’s residence, where he set fire to a Honda CRV vehicle, a diesel-operated ploughing machine, a three-roomed house, and a granary containing 360kg of maize.
The incident was reported to the police, leading to Moyo’s arrest. Mlilo, sustaining severe injuries, required medical attention, as confirmed by a medical report. The total cost of the property damaged in the attack amounted to US$14,047.
