A 25-year-old man from Budiriro is recovering after a suspected suicide attempt on Saturday, reportedly triggered by the effects of an illegal substance.
Mark Nyamayaro, who is unrelated to the author of this report, was rescued by a passerby after he allegedly broke a bottle and slashed his throat. He sustained injuries to the neck.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident, saying investigations are underway.

“The police are looking into a suspected suicide attempt in Budiriro. The individual admitted to taking ‘mutoriro’ at Machipisa Shopping Centre in Highfield,” said Inspector Chakanza. “He was transported to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital with his father.”
According to his father, Howard Nyamayaro, this is not the first time Mark has harmed himself after taking illicit brews. In a previous incident, he reportedly cut his hand using broken glass.
The latest incident unfolded in full view of the public at the busy Current Shopping Centre, drawing the attention of shocked onlookers.
