Old Mutual Teams Up with The Eye Institute for Community Eye Care Program

Old Mutual has launched a significant partnership with the Eye Institute, founded by Dr. Ron Mhizha, to enhance eye care services in Zimbabwe.

This initiative aims to improve healthcare access for various community members, including pensioners, beginning with a pilot project in Manicaland.

The collaboration responds to findings from the Zimbabwe National Eye Health Strategy (2014-2018), which identified cataracts, glaucoma, and other conditions as major causes of blindness.

The new National Eye Health Strategy (2021-2025) aims to combat the rising incidence of eye diseases by eradicating avoidable blindness and providing comprehensive eye care services.

Old Mutual and the Eye Institute will focus on essential screenings, treatments, and surgeries, particularly for conditions that can be managed through primary eye care. The partnership seeks to address the limited access to eye care services in underserved communities.
