Parirenyatwa Psychologist Accused of S-xual Abuse by Mentally Ill Patients

Parirenyatwa Hospital Runs Out of Blood Lines for Kidney Patients

A trainee clinical psychologist accused of s-xually abusing mentally ill patients has reportedly resumed work at Parirenyatwa Hospital, according to NewsDay.

The intern, Lesley Machokoto, allegedly engaged in s-xual activity with patients after luring them to an office after hours. Although initially dismissed from his position, he successfully appealed the decision.

In a letter dated December 14, 2023, Parirenyatwa Hospital informed the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe about the accusations against Machokoto. These included having sexual relations with patients, impersonating a doctor, and violating confidentiality protocols.

The letter stated that the Psychology Department at the Parirenyatwa Psychiatric Unit had noted the allegations against Machokoto and was conducting an investigation. The accusations were reportedly raised by fellow interns, attachés, and patients.

When contacted, Machokoto responded, “This is news to me. I can’t comment right now because I am currently employed by the hospital. Call me in an hour.”
