Law enforcement authorities in Bulilimamangwe have intensified efforts against smuggling, successfully recovering a smuggled vehicle and apprehending several suspects involved in illegal trade.
On March 28, 2025, police intercepted a red Honda Fit with Zimbabwean registration plates (ADY 4016) at the 80-kilometer mark along the Plumtree-Dombotema Road.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, but the driver managed to evade capture. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that the vehicle was registered under the name of a Motswana national.
In another operation the day before, officers arrested Max Gatagata (49) on March 27, 2025, for attempting to smuggle various goods, including blankets, tracksuits, clothing, and satchels. He was caught along the Plumtree-Vaka Road near Nxele Dam, Plumtree.

The crackdown continued on April 1, 2025, when detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Harare received intelligence about a foreign-registered Toyota Quantum kombi transporting Broncleer Cough Syrup from Bulawayo to Harare.
Acting on the tip-off, law enforcement intercepted the vehicle at Kadoma Toll Gate along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
The driver fled the scene, but officers managed to arrest Rodrick Chambe (39). A search of the kombi led to the recovery of 42 boxes of Broncleer Cough Syrup (50 x 100ml bottles), with an estimated street value of USD 16,400.
These enforcement actions are part of an ongoing campaign to dismantle smuggling operations in the region. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb illegal trade.
