President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended his congratulations to Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, following her election as Namibia’s new president in the presidential race held on November 30.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, who represents the ruling South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), secured more than 57% of the vote. Her closest competitor, Panduleni Itula of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), received 26%. In the National Assembly elections, SWAPO won 51 out of 96 seats, while IPC secured 20 seats.
In a message sent on December 4, Mnangagwa expressed that Nandi-Ndaitwah’s win demonstrates the trust and confidence Namibians have in her leadership. He wrote:
“On behalf of the Government and people of Zimbabwe, and my own behalf, I offer my sincere congratulations on your historic election as Namibia’s President. Your victory reflects the people’s trust in your ability to uphold the liberation legacy and drive socio-economic progress in Namibia.”

Mnangagwa also expressed confidence that the strong relations between Zimbabwe and Namibia would continue to flourish. He reassured Nandi-Ndaitwah of Zimbabwe’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
He concluded with well wishes for Nandi-Ndaitwah’s health and success, and for peace and prosperity for Namibia’s citizens.
Nandi-Ndaitwah is married to Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, the former Chief of the Namibian Defence Force.
