President Mnangagwa Shines Spotlight on Ministers’ Performance

President Mnangagwa’s administration is doubling down on its commitment to excellence with the upcoming signing of performance-based contracts by Cabinet ministers and heads of public sector agencies.

Introduced by President Mnangagwa in 2021, these annual performance-based contracts underscore the importance of tangible results over mere rhetoric among top civil servants.

In a move to reaffirm this commitment, ministers and agency heads are slated to sign these contracts later this week.

According to a statement released by the Office of the President and Cabinet, these performance contracts are pivotal in promoting accountability, servant leadership, and economic competitiveness.

During a recent Cabinet meeting at State House, President Mnangagwa urged ministers to prioritize their responsibilities and focus on implementing policies and programs that will propel Zimbabwe towards greater economic prosperity.

According to The Heralds ,he emphasised the importance of engaging with citizens and leveraging their expertise to drive sustainable development, underscoring the significance of active participation in thematic working groups.

Highlighting past achievements, the Best Performing Minister for 2022 was Dr. Anxious Masuka from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, with recognition extending to his Permanent Secretary, Dr. John Basera. Ambassador Frederick Shava, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, was acknowledged as the second-best performing minister.

President Mnangagwa’s commitment to accountability extends beyond Cabinet ministries. He will chair a bi-annual review meeting to evaluate the performance of local authorities, aiming to address the decline in service delivery in towns and cities.

This initiative aligns with a broader blueprint for local authority modernization, emphasizing the administration’s unwavering dedication to enhancing service delivery towards the 2030 Vision.
