Self-proclaimed prophet and social media personality Passion Java has claimed responsibility for barring Zimdancehall icon Winky D from performing at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on New Year’s Eve.
According to Java, the decision was driven by allegations that Winky D had previously used a stage performance to attack President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration.
Speaking during a live social media broadcast, Java alleged that Winky D’s lyrical content in recent performances and songs was politically charged and aimed at tarnishing the image of the Zimbabwean government. “As a patriot and someone who supports our President, I could not stand by and let someone use music to undermine our leadership,” Java stated. “Freedom of expression should not be abused to disrespect authority.”
