An effective 20 years in prison has been handed down to a SELF-STYLED prophet Peter Pasi from Chitungwiza who s*xually assaulted a member of his congregation under the guise of warding off bad spirits.
Following a thorough trial, Chitungwiza regional magistrate Mrs. Gloria Takundwa found 40-year-old Peter Pasi guilty of rape.
The prosecutor, Ms. Pamela Dzinduwa, presented evidence that the complainant, a 15-year-old, was present at a church service on June 16 at approximately 3 p.m. when Pasi foretold that the complainant would require three days of prayer to drive off bad spirits.
The complainant attended the prayer on June 17 and was instructed to return on her own at a later time. The court heard on that day, the complainant proceeded to the church shrine where she was told to proceed into the bush and look for a Muhacha tree.

Pasi then spread a red cloth on the ground under the Muhacha tree pretending as if he was doing the process of casting away evil spirits.
The complainant then knelt on the handkerchief that he had covered her face with. He told her to lie down with her head turned to the sky.
Pasi pushed himself on her shortly after and engaged in unprotected s*x with the plaintiff. The court heard that despite her best efforts to scream, no one could hear her. She told her grandma about the rape and told her neighbor as well, and she was taken to report the incident to the police.
