I have been observing the buzz on social media lately, and it seems like everyone, especially women, is applauding Ras Pompy for allegedly dating his older partner, often labeled as his “sugar mama.”
The praise is loud, and the comments are full of admiration, highlighting how he is “smart” for securing someone who can provide financial support and stability.
But this reaction begs the question: would the applause be as loud if the tables were turned? Let us flip the scenario.
Imagine if it were an older man publicly involved with a much younger woman.
Would the same women who are celebrating Ras Pompy’s relationship be as supportive, or would we hear cries of exploitation and grooming?

The reality is that our society often holds double standards when it comes to relationships involving age differences, especially when gender dynamics are reversed.
When a younger man dates an older woman, it is often seen as a smart move—a progressive break from traditional norms.
People praise the younger man for being savvy and independent. But when it is an older man dating a younger woman, it is labeled problematic, predatory, or worse, abusive.
The younger woman is often seen as a victim, even when the relationship is consensual, and the older man is painted as manipulative or controlling.
This discrepancy reveals a deeper societal issue about how we perceive gender roles in relationships.
For many, it is easier to accept a younger man with an older woman because it challenges the conventional power dynamics.
It is seen as empowering for the younger man and a sign of modernity and open-mindedness for the older woman.
However, the same sense of empowerment is not extended to young women who might choose to be with older men.
The truth is, relationships should be evaluated based on mutual respect, consent, and personal choice, not on rigid social expectations or stereotypes.
If Ras Pompy’s relationship is being celebrated as a consensual and happy match, why would not the same energy be extended to a young woman making a similar choice?
There is also a tendency to romanticize one scenario while demonizing the other.
We should ask ourselves why we are so quick to label an older woman with a younger man as empowering but are reluctant to see an older man with a younger woman in the same light.
Does this stem from ingrained biases, or are we just more comfortable with narratives that fit our personal beliefs about gender and power?
It is time for a little introspection. Applauding Ras Pompy while condemning the reverse scenario only highlights a glaring double standard.
