Two weeks ago exotic dancer Zoey Sifelani had to rush to Harare Hospital to assist Kelly Kauma one of her dancers who is well known as Bhonjisi who had taken a drug overdose.
“I got a call form Kelly’s mum who stays with her in Mufakose that she had fallen ill due to substance abuse. Previously I have had challenges with her during shows and I do try my best to discourage each member of the Red Angels from consuming alcohol or drugs especially during work. I guess it is because of the lockdown and spending all day doing nothing that led her to turn to drug addiction,” said Zoey.
Zoey whose shows have also been affected by the lockdown and facing some financial constraints was assisted by the kind hearted Londoners Sports Bar boss Mrs Debbie Mubi in footing the medical bills for Kelly.
Today on a call, Kelly who is in her mid-twenties confirmed that she has gone back for medical review and is now on the road to recovery after days of experiencing the unpleasant life in a mental ward. Her mother also confirmed that there is a huge improvement in her health.
“More needs to be done in communities especially by fellow artists in educating youths about the risks of substance abuse. I hope that we will one day have an online event where we address this issue,” said the concerned Zoey.
