Renowned Businessman and Liberation Hero Chemist Siziba Laid to Rest in Harare

The funeral service for the esteemed businessman Chemist Siziba, who passed away last Saturday due to kidney failure at Parirenyatwa Hospital, was solemnly held at his residence in Borrowdale Hodge Hill.

Recognized for his significant contributions during the liberation war, President E.D. Mnangangwa honored Siziba with the prestigious title of Liberation Hero. Alongside luminaries like tycoons Strive Masiyiwa and James Makamba, Siziba pioneered the Telecoms and Technology sector.

Throughout the service, heartfelt tributes flowed from various quarters, including his comrades from both Zanu PF and Zapu. Siziba’s role as an intelligence operative for Zapu, operating under the National Security Organisation (NSO) led by Dumiso Dabengwa, known as “THE BLACK RUSSIAN,” was particularly highlighted.

Siziba’s journey into activism began during his student years at the University of Rhodisia in the early 1970s. His educational roots trace back to Gwabalila, Lubuze, Wanezi, Matopo, and Flecther in Matebeleland South and Midlands.

After completing his studies at the University of Bombay (Mumbai, India), Siziba ventured to the United Kingdom, where he was recruited into Zapu’s intelligence unit. While balancing work and further studies, he remained stationed in the UK until he was called upon to relocate to Lusaka, Zambia, as the war intensified.

Stationed in Lusaka until 1979, Siziba witnessed the historical moment when Zanu and Zapu were allowed to return home following the ceasefire at the Lancaster House Agreement, paving the way for the 1980 elections.

Siziba’s absence will be profoundly felt by his circle of friends, particularly at the Oasis Hotel Bar on Nelson Mandela Avenue in Harare, where he spent 44 years as a loyal patron.

His final resting place will be at Glenforest Memorial Park in Harare, marking the end of a remarkable journey of service and dedicationHome – ZiMetro News
