Rising Star: Prof Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe Sets New Record as Africa's Youngest Female PhD Graduate

Meet – Prof Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe at age 23 she obtained a PhD in Industrial Psychology from North-West University, becoming the youngest female PhD graduate in Africa.

At age 28, she was appointed Associate Professor of Industrial Psychology at the University of Johannesburg.

Professor Musa as she is popularly known was born in Zimbabwe, raised in Botswana and currently resides in South Africa.

At age 16, she started her undergraduate studies at the North-West University in South Africa.

At age 19, she obtained a BCom in Human Resources Management and a BCom Honours in Human Resources Management at age 20.

At age 21, she obtained a Master of Commerce (MCom) in Human Resources Management.

At age 23, she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Industrial Psychology from North-West University, becoming the youngest female PhD holder in Africa.

Her PhD thesis passed without corrections and focused on The Management perspectives on a talent value proposition for academic staff in a South African Higher Education Institution.

Professor Musa is an Editorial Fellow at American Psychological Association, an Advisory Board Member at Women Power Africa, an Academic Editor at PLOS, and a Research Supervisor at STADIO Higher Education.

“Coming from a household where my parents have had to make so many sacrifices to ensure that my siblings and I got a better start to life has always compelled me to thrive as much as I can in all my endeavours. It is always important to remember that though pursuing success often entails significant struggle, if you commit to pushing through the barriers, it will only be temporary,” said Prof Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe.
