Russia and Iran to Sign Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized on Tuesday that the upcoming Comprehensive Partnership Agreement, set to be signed by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian in Moscow, is not intended to target any other country.

The Kremlin announced on Monday that the two leaders will sign the agreement following talks on January 17.

Lavrov clarified that, like Russia’s agreements with North Korea, the new partnership aims to enhance Russia and Iran’s global capabilities without being directed at any other nation.

The agreement focuses on strengthening the two countries’ economies, addressing social challenges, and bolstering defense capabilities, Lavrov explained during a press briefing on Russian diplomacy in 2024.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Manicaland, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident to The Manica Post.

According to Chinyoka, on January 2, 2025, Madzirerusa had been working in her yard when a rainstorm suddenly began. Seeking shelter, she retreated to her kitchen hut, where she began organizing metal kitchen utensils. Tragically, a lightning bolt struck the roof of the hut, igniting a fire.

A neighbor, Mrs. Winnie Ndoro (70), noticed the fire and saw that Madzirerusa had fallen. Along with Ms. Lynette Jera, Ndoro moved the woman to the main house and alerted other villagers. Unfortunately, by the time help arrived, Madzirerusa had already passed away.

The police were notified, and the body was transported to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.

Chinyoka urged the public to remain vigilant during the rainy season, emphasizing the dangers of lightning strikes and flooding. He advised people to install lightning conductors, avoid handling metal objects during storms, and refrain from being in open areas when it’s raining.
