Former Zinasu Secretary for Legal and Academic Affairs Ryan Mugayi , a charismatic and determined student activist at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), has formed a student union called Zimbabwe Student Union (Zisu), which he claims has different functionality in advocating for students rights from Zinasu and Zicosu.
He and his team have a dream of uniting fellow students and amplifying their voices. He envisioned a platform where students could come together, share ideas, and work towards a common goal of improving their university experience.
Ryan has affirmed to the students that the union that he is leading is non-partisan. “Zisu will not be affiliated with any political party, unlike other unions that exist now that are loyal to certain parties,” said Ryan in an interview with Showbiz News.
“Our eye is not on elections we want to achieve our goals our concept note is clear, with team work will accomplish our goals”‘ said Ryan
Ryan decided to turn his vision into reality, and he gathered a group of like-minded students like Delight Mapololo, Leroy T Nyakapanga, Tanaka Mtizwa, Lindsay Gumbochuma, Farai Chitevere, Tafadzwa Trish Kado,Leon T Mubika and Courage Nheshe,  together formed a union.

“The name was chosen to reflect the union’s commitment to representing students from all walks of life, regardless of their background or affiliation,” he said.
Under Ryan’s leadership, Zisu is quickly gaining momentum. The union will host events and campaigns that are going to address various student concerns, from academic issues to social and economic empowerment.
Ryan and his team aim to achieve remarkable milestones. They said they are eager to engage with the university administration to improve student facilities, advocate for affordable education, and create opportunities for student entrepreneurship and innovation.
His dedication to the student body dates back to when he was a member of Zinasu, where he participated so much in the fight for academic freedom.
“I am tirelessly working to ensure that every student has a voice and a platform to express themselves. As Zisu grows, so does its impact. The union might be a model for other student organisations in Zimbabwe, inspiring a wave of student activism and empowerment across the country,” he stated.
