Scottland FC is now just one game away from earning a coveted spot in the Premier Soccer League, needing only a win against the strong Black Mambas in the final Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) fixture on Friday.
Scottland surged to the top of the NRSL standings following the league’s announcement yesterday, awarding them a 3-0 victory over Karoi United in their abandoned match. The game, initially halted due to crowd disruptions, was 1-1 when called off. With this ruling, Scottland moved up to 84 points after 37 games, just two points ahead of second-place MWOS, who stand at 82 points with the same number of games played.

The final round on Friday sees both Scottland and MWOS playing at home. Scottland hosts Black Mambas at Rufaro Stadium, while MWOS faces Agama at Ngoni. Given MWOS’s superior goal difference, Scottland must secure a win to ensure promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. Any points dropped by Scottland, coupled with a win for MWOS, would hand the title to MWOS.
The NRSL disciplinary committee, explaining its decision to award the match to Scottland, expressed disappointment with Karoi United’s lack of accountability over the incident. According to the verdict, Karoi United, one of the league’s longest-standing clubs, failed in its duty to manage security and control fan behavior, leading to the game’s abrupt conclusion. The committee cited this as a repeat offense for Karoi United and noted the club’s lack of remorse, which they said contributed to delays in resolving the matter and brought unwanted criticism to the league.
