The first Shero Awards Gala which took place at the Meikles Hotel on Friday 2nd November was outstanding as women from all walks of life were honoured for the contributions that they are making in society and in business.
Bianca Letwin Mari who flew in from the United Kingdom after managing the planning of the event electronically outdid herself following the success of the event.
Women from all walks of life in their elegant red carpet gowns some in the arms of men wearing dinner jackets came together to celebrate their successes and thriving in creating better lives for themselves and their families.
One outstanding award was handed to an octogenarian from Mberengwa who owns an ECD school. Titled “Gogo Shero,” the special award was a recognition for the retired elderly woman who is actively in business.
Another golden girl Gogo Bertha Madamombe who had accompanied her runner up philanthropic award Savanna ended up scooping the show stopper trophy of being the best dressed lady in the audience.
Delivering a message on behalf of Minister Sthembiso Nyoni, Director of Gender at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Scale Enterprise Development Vaidah Mashangwa said, “Our thrust as government is to ensure that women run successful businesses that contribute to the gross domestic product thereby reviving our economy.”
Turkish Ambassador His Excellence Hakan Kivanç who graced the event in support of women endeavours handed over the educational excellence accolade to young Samantha Ruzvidzo.
Exercise and fitness queen Evonne Mudzingwa and other lady or girl bosses who are major players in the marketplace Uzillah Hove and Constance Museredza who were nominated by fellow women and fairly voted for on the Shero Awards Gala social media page received accolades for the fruit of their hard work.
Uzzilah is famous for changing lifestyles of what society defines as an ordinary woman who is a street vendor by helping them manage their finances until they save enough to purchase a house or a car that alone deserves a prize.
Yeukai Rumema Masora was recognised on the Entrepreneurship award winner category for women over 30 with registered businesses.
Dr Mba from the Cancer Clinic, Ms Barbra the Marketing Director at Zimbabwe Women Microfinance Bank and Ms Rachel J CEO of Jarach Investments took turns in handing over the accolades for different categories.
Speaking to media Bianca Mari mentioned that the Shero Awards Gala is there to stay and promised a bigger and better event next year.
Audinance and Bekground Band entertained the audience with a brief appearance from Bob Nyabinde and a fashion showcasing.
