Organisers of the 6th annual Shoko Festival has promised to pay artistes and festival staff on time.
This follows late payments that saw Magamba Network, the festival organisers being heavily criticised by artistes and those who had rendered them services last year.
Some artistes even aired their frustrations on social media on the ‘unproffessionalism’ shown by festival organisers.
Speaking at a press conference at Moto Republik early Wednesday, festival director Sam Monro aka Cde Fasto said they have learnt from previous mistakes.
“We have learnt from the constructive criticism we received last year,” he said.
“This time around we are retaining services based on the money we have in our accounts, received from sponsors and partners. We are not depending on promised financing.”
Shoko Festival is an annual urban culture showcase that attracts different spoken word artistes including musicians, poets and comedians. Several workshops with international personalities are held around the festival with the Hub Un conference being the main attraction in this segment.
This year the festival is running under the theme Come Alive.
It will be held at the National Museum of Human Science in Harare’s Kopje area while their Peace in the Hood program will be held in Chitungwiza.
South African AKA, Winky D and Ammara Brown will headline the event.
