Zim dancehall artist Jimmy Mudereri, known by his stage name Silent Killer, was detained by police on suspicion of fraud and is being held at ZRP Matapi while waiting to appear tomorrow morning in the Harare Magistrates Court.
Silent Killer was signed by Seh Wish Entertainment on June 3 to be the featured act at the Mambodo Birthday Bash on June 22, 2024. According to a company representative, they paid Silent Killer US$250 in advance for the performance, with the remaining balance due on the day of the performance. Silent Killer was paid US$500 for the performance.
The artist was then sent an event flyer by Seh Wish Entertainment to post on his social media accounts. The promoter was taken aback, though, when Silent Killer failed to publicize the event he was headlining.
Fans flocked to the venue on the day of the event, expecting to see Silent Killer perform, but he never did. Reaching him proved unsuccessful, as he refused calls from Seh Wish Entertainment.
When the promoter finally got in touch with Silent Killer a few days later, he was a rude man. When Seh Wish Entertainment asked the chanter to repay the advance over a recorded call, Silent Killer gave a nasty response without any remorse.
The Silent Killer, who shot to fame after realizing the popular song Kuf Kaf, went on to say that filing a police report for fraud would be useless.
The Zim dancehall community is keeping a close eye on this case’s developments because they could have wider effects on how people perceive the genre.
