Hundreds of ruling party supporters and senior district officials thronged a local ground yesterday for the explosive launch of the Churu Sports Festival, where Harare Province Vice Chairman Honorable Cde Fundukwa delivered a hefty package of development incentives and rallied the community behind the controversial Amendment Number 3.
The event, held under the flagship of Zimsports for ED, saw Cde Fundukwa donating 20 netball uniforms to women’s teams and 20 football kits to men in the constituency, signaling a major push for grassroots sports development.
In what is being hailed as a holistic empowerment drive, the Vice Chairman also facilitated the certification of 300 constituents who successfully completed training in various vocational projects. The initiative, run in collaboration with Entrepreneurs for Economic Development, aims to equip locals with trade skills to foster self-reliance.
However, the crowd erupted with excitement when Cde Fundukwa announced the hefty prize money attached to the festival’s climax. The winning team for the final games, set to be played on Independence Day, will walk away with $5 000 for the football team, while the netball will pocket USD 2 000.
Addressing the gathering, Cde Fundukwa took the opportunity to galvanize political support, urging the constituency to fully back the proposed constitutional amendment.
“Let us rally behind Amendment Number 3. It is the vehicle that will consolidate our revolutionary gains,” he told the crowd.
He emphasized the importance of marrying recreation with economic liberation. “We must use sports platforms not just for entertainment, but to empower the youths in this constituency. A healthy mind and a skilled hand are the true weapons of development,” he added.
On the political front, he rallied the party’s grassroots machinery, calling for massive cell mobilisation to strengthen party structures ahead of future programmes.
“I urge you all to embrace massive cell mobilisation. The cell is the foundation of our revolutionary party, and we must ensure that no one is left behind as we consolidate power and development under the leadership of our visionary President, Cde Mnangagwa,” Cde Fundukwa said.
He further assured the community that more empowerment projects are set to be rolled out across the constituency, reaffirming the ruling party’s commitment to improving livelihoods.
“Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, this constituency will witness a wave of empowerment projects. We are walking the talk on Vision 2030, ensuring that every household benefits from the fruits of our revolution,” he added.
The launch, characterized by song and dance, underscored the ruling party’s continued push to penetrate grassroots structures through developmental projects as the nation moves towards commemorating its 44th Independence anniversary.
Cde Fundukwa, a key mobiliser in the Harare Province, has been vocal about using community-based initiatives to drive the ruling party’s Vision 2030 agenda. The Churu Sports Festival is expected to become an annual fixture on the constituency’s calendar, aimed at uniting the community while promoting physical fitness and economic dialogue. He added that the ruling party remains committed to leaving no one behind as Zimbabwe marches towards an empowered upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
