St. Angela Academy, a prominent educational institution in Borrowdale, marked its 10th anniversary with a magnificent fundraising and awards black tie dinner at the Celebration Center. The event showcased the school’s growth and accomplishments over the past decade.
Mrs. Margaret Bhowa, the school’s founder and principal, addressed the gathering, expressing her gratitude to the staff, parents, and students for their unwavering commitment to the school’s mission. She highlighted the school’s impressive academic record, with over 80% of O-level and A-level students consistently achieving excellent results.
The dinner also served as a platform to recognize the outstanding achievements of students. Alex Mudzimundiringe, a Lower Six student and the incoming head boy, was awarded four academic and two sporting accolades. Venus Chikangaidze, a Form 1 student, was also honored for her exceptional academic performance, receiving more than nine awards. Other notable recipients included Form 2 student Adiel Mutibvu and several other students.
Mrs. Bhowa attributed the school’s success to the dedication and teamwork of the teaching staff, led by Deputy Head Mr. Chigovera. She noted that the school’s unique approach of providing free extra lessons, even during school holidays, has contributed significantly to students’ academic success.
The school’s growing reputation has led to increased enrollment and development initiatives. St. Angela Academy is currently raising funds to build a larger boarding school to accommodate more students. The school boasts well-equipped science and computer laboratories, a school library, and offers pure sciences up to the upper level.
To entertain the guests, students showcased their singing, music, and spoken word talents. Additionally, virtual messages from alumni around the world were conveyed, expressing their gratitude for the school’s impact on their lives.
St. Angela Academy’s contributions to Zimbabwe’s spiritual, intellectual, and moral development are significant. The school’s efforts are an exhibition of the transformative power of education.
Mrs. Bhowa encouraged the school and teaching staff to prepare students for the 21st century by equipping them with critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills. She also emphasized the importance of emotional skills like empathy and resilience to address the growing mental health concerns among young people.
