Standard Bank Joy of Jazz 2024 will celebrate the legacy of the late Oliver Mtukudzi and his distinctive Tuku Music. The festival is set to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, kicking off on September 27, 2024.
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, the Oliver Mtukudzi Tribute Band will perform. This special band will include Samantha Mtukudzi, the daughter of Oliver Mtukudzi, along with well-known South African artists Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Maduvha Madima. Zimbabwean artist Mbeu, who leads a six-member band called The Mhodzi Tribe, will also join them. The music director for this tribute will be Clive Mono Mukundu.
Africa’s leading jazz festival, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz aims to highlight both African and international jazz artists. This year marks the festival’s 25th anniversary, showcasing an impressive lineup of jazz musicians from across the continent and beyond.

On these two or more days of the festival, 50 artists from more than 10 countries will perform on five stages. In addition to Samantha Mtukudzi and Mbeu, the festival will feature Lesotho’s own Malehloka Hlalele, popularly known as Maleh. Together, these talented musicians will entertain thousands of jazz fans, all supported by Standard Bank, the parent company of Stanbic Bank.
