Rapper Desmond Stunner Chideme has awaken from his three year long recording slumber to release a new album this month.
The album titled If I die tonight will contain between 16 and 18 tracks depending on the decision by his management and will be launched at Pablo’s on August 19.
Speaking to Showbiz this week, Stunner said he was happy that Anne Kansiime, the Ugandan stand-up comedian who performed in the country last Saturday had made the job easy for his management by mentioning him during her set.
“Been working on that. It’s been three years coming and I’m internationally known so I’m not surprised she mentioned my name. Zvinowanikwa kubasa,” Stunner said.
Despite his three year holiday, Stunner said he did not feel any pressure from other genres hence no need to rush himself.
“I didn’t feel the pressure and need to rush myself. I want my music to last or to be played for a year at least like how they still enjoy Dhafukorera, Team Hombe, Godo and other songs. Making an album every six months does not help,” he said.
The artiste has also collaborated with several artistes among them Jamaican Sir Ford, Jah Prayzah, Ngoni Kambarami, Trevor Dondo, Kay Rich and Albert Nyathi probably making a statement with that too.
Stunner said fellow musicians needed to unlock the formula that works for their careers to thrive.
He said after the release of the album that is penned in for Pablo’s in Borrowdale, he would concentrate on international gigs.
“I need to do east for a little bit. I have not explored that area yet, musically,” he said.
A question whether he felt moved by other genres thriving other over his invited the typical Stunner response: “I speak for myself and I have never been affected by any other genre. I still do shows every weekend and they still ain’t done tracks bigger than mine. I’m not worried.
I have been versatile since day one having been one of the first to even sing dancehall on tracks like Mudhara Bhanda saka (so) I’m everywhere. I a musicians not governed by genre.”
On the bad boy tag that stuck to him after his sex tape with socialite Pokello Nare who has since moved on with Ghanaian Elikem Kumordzie after they met on Big Brother Africa, Stunner said he had no regrets.
“I just live my life, you are the one that calls it a tag. My life just keeps going up. I have no regrets. Tirikurarama munyasha (I am surviving in grace).”
While Stunner stunned the corporate world with his bedroom stunts on video much to the chagrin of some that had given him endorsement deals leading to his loss, Pokello apparently benefited by making it onto Big Brother Africa.
