Teenagers up for US$10 Robbery

Teenagers up for US$10 Robbery

THREE teenagers recently faced charges in court for allegedly robbing a pedestrian of both US$10 and an iTel cellphone along Mbuya Nehanda Street in downtown Harare.

The individuals, namely Tapiwa Ngirandi (16), whose age was questioned during the proceedings, Tinashe Karonde (18), and Amos Takarwisa (19), appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi yesterday. They were not required to enter a plea at this stage.

According to reports, the incident took place around 2 am on a Sunday when the trio reportedly confronted and assaulted the man as he walked along the street. Tapiwa allegedly snatched the victim’s iTel phone and US$10 during the altercation.

The State contends that the two accomplices continued to assault the victim while Tapiwa carried out the robbery. The assault only ceased when a security guard from a nearby building intervened.

It was noted during the court proceedings that all three teenagers do not have a fixed place of abode.

Prosecutor Zebediah Bofu handled the case.
