A tragic accident on Seke Road led to the sentencing of a thief Terrence Mavheneke who stole a phone from the scene. Terrence Mavheneke, a conductor, was arrested and sentenced to one year in prison for stealing the phone of Christabella Makwanya, who died in the accident.
Mavheneke had sold the phone to two individuals, who were caught trying to reset it at a workshop owned by Makwanya’s relative. The relative tipped off the police, leading to Mavheneke’s arrest.
Epworth magistrate Esther Mutezo handed down a sentence of twelve months’ imprisonment to Terrence Mavheneke, with a portion of the term suspended. Specifically, five months of the sentence were suspended on condition of good behavior, meaning that Mavheneke will serve an effective sentence of seven months in prison.

Derrick John Chitope appeared before Epworth magistrate Tafadzwa Miti, who suspended two years of the sentence on condition of good behavior. Chitope was also prohibited from driving heavy vehicles for life.
In both cases, the courts have sent a strong message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated. The sentences also serve as a reminder of the importance of respecting the law and the consequences of one’s actions.
