Number of Awards: Approximately 80 scholarships are granted annually.
Target Group: Citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
Scholarship Coverage: The Gates Cambridge Scholarship encompasses the entire cost of studying at Cambridge, including tuition fees, a maintenance allowance (£20,000 for 12 months at the 2023-24 rate; pro-rata for courses shorter than 12 months—up to 4 years for PhD scholars), one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course, inbound visa costs, and the Immigration Health Surcharge. Additional discretionary funding for academic development, family allowance, fieldwork, etc., is also provided.
Eligibility: Applicants must:
- Be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
- Be applying for a full-time residential course of study: PhD (full-time or part-time*), MSc or MLitt (full-time), or a one-year postgraduate course (full-time) with some exceptions (refer to the list above).
For October 2024 entry, Gates Cambridge is testing a scheme allowing applicants to seek funding for a part-time doctoral degree.
Application Process: Applicants submit their application for admission and funding (Gates Cambridge and other funding) through the University’s Graduate Application Portal.
To be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship, candidates must complete the admission and funding sections, including the Gates Cambridge part.
