Three Women Allegedly Robbed Of Valuables While Hitchhiking
Three women from Redcliff town were reportedly robbed of cash, cellphones, and clothing items amounting to approximately US$400 by three occupants of a vehicle they had hitchhiked in Kwekwe.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, which took place around 1 AM on February 2nd at Amatava Turn-off along the Harare-Bulawayo road.
According to Mahoko, the women boarded a white Fun Cargo vehicle with unknown registration numbers at Telecel in Kwekwe CBD, intending to travel to Redcliff. The vehicle had three male occupants, including the driver.
Upon reaching the Redcliff turn-off, instead of heading towards Redcliff Road, the driver continued towards Gweru. It was then that one of the occupants brandished a Columbia knife, while the others demanded cash and cellphones from the women.
Fearing for their lives, the victims handed over cash, cellphones, and a satchel containing clothing items, altogether valued at US$441, before jumping out of the moving vehicle.
As a result, they sustained moderate injuries and were subsequently taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for treatment. They were later discharged in stable conditions.
