Transmart Trust Opens Community Friendly Clinic
Transmart Trust made Saturday, November 25, 2023, more memorable by formally opening a clinic. The transgender community enthusiastically embraced this action, which took place in Harare as part of the celebration of the Trans Day of Visibility.
“I am very happy and excited about the new clinic because it is a very comfortable environment for us where the health services that we need will be delivered openly and freely without fear of being judged or discriminated,” said Theo a transgender woman, “previously we used public facilities and LGBT clinics where I felt like the “G” did not embrace us, so I preferred not to seek health services and chose home remedies instead.”
Transmart Trust executive director Gumisayi Bonzo in her comment said, “We needed to enhance access of services for the transgender and intersex communities whilst complimenting the other partners that we are working with consequently. We are improving efforts in providing human centered equitable, comprehensive health services for the community.”
More than 50 transgender men and women from Manicaland, Mashonaland West, Midlands, Masvingo, Mashonaland East and Harare provinces attended the historic event.
The organization’s board members who were the invited guests officially announced the opening of the clinic.
They not only celebrated the clinic but also remembered the transgender people who had passed away by lighting candles and signing memorial messages.
