Tropical Storm Filipo Strikes Mozambique
Today, Mozambique faces yet another devastating blow as Tropical Storm Filipo makes landfall, leaving hundreds of thousands of people in dire need of humanitarian aid. The storm’s impact is particularly concerning given the recent memory of Cyclone Freddy, which ravaged parts of Mozambique and neighboring Malawi just a year ago, leaving millions without access to essential resources.
According to Oxfam, the humanitarian organization, Filipo hit the Inhambane province in Mozambique, compounding the challenges already faced by communities struggling to recover from previous disasters. The situation is dire, with many individuals in urgent need of food, water, and shelter.
Oxfam, along with its partners, is actively assessing the extent of the damage caused by Filipo. However, severe disruptions in communications have hindered their efforts to fully comprehend the scale of the disaster.

As Mozambique grapples with yet another natural calamity, the immediate focus remains on providing critical assistance to those affected, while efforts to evaluate and address the broader impact of the storm continue.
“Consecutive disasters have made it almost impossible for affected communities to recover and rebuild their lives. Whatever little crops people have tried planting in this growing season have been damaged either due to El Nino-induced six weeks of dry spells or by flash floods.” says Machinda Marongwe, Oxfam in Southern Africa Programme Director.
