Truck Carrying Presidential Inputs Missing in Tsholotsho

Tsholotsho district

A truck transporting crucial agricultural inputs under the Presidential Inputs Scheme for Ward Seven in Tsholotsho district, Matabeleland North province, has been reported missing since January 4, 2025.

The missing consignment has raised concerns among local authorities and farmers who were eagerly awaiting the supplies for the planting season.

The truck was carrying 400 bags of 50kg Urea fertilizer, 30 bags of 10kg sunflower seeds, and 100 bottles of 200ml Imidacloprid chemicals essential inputs aimed at supporting smallholder farmers in the region. Alarmingly, the truck was accompanied by a police officer tasked with ensuring its safe delivery.

Sources revealed that the inputs were not recorded in the provisional dispatcher book, reportedly due to the book being full. This irregularity has further complicated the investigation and cast doubts on the accountability measures within the distribution system.

Police have identified Kwanele Elena Alanna Dube, the Ward Seven Agritex extension officer, and Langton Ncube, a Grain Marketing Board (GMB) contract employee, as the main suspects in the disappearance of the truck. Both individuals are currently on the run, evading law enforcement efforts to bring them to justice.

In addition, Abisinjo Mpofu, a police officer stationed at ZRP Tsholotsho who was assigned to accompany the consignment, has been implicated in the case. His role in the disappearance is under scrutiny, raising questions about the effectiveness of oversight and the potential for internal collusion.
