Two Kenyans Nabbed In Victoria Falls With Over 60kg Of Mbanje

Two Kenyan nationals, Muchai Kamau (47) and Sammy Duke (33), were apprehended at the Kazungula Border in Victoria Falls after law enforcement officers discovered bags of mbanje hidden in a secret compartment of their Kenya-registered vehicle.

Alongside the confiscated mbanje, which totaled 66.6kg, authorities also found 67 small packs of processed mbanje in the vehicle. Kamau and Duke appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Mr.

Genius Manyika, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing dangerous drugs, and were each sentenced to 10 years in jail.

However, the magistrate suspended four years of their sentence on the condition of good behavior, meaning they will serve an effective six years each.

Prosecuting, Ms. Josephine Gurazhira informed the court that the duo was arrested on Friday as they arrived at the Kazungula Border from Botswana en route to Kenya in a Mercedes Benz Sprinter with a Kenyan registration number plate.

The vehicle, along with the confiscated mbanje, was seized by Zimra.
