Wanai’s ambitious journey

By Showbiz Writer

Former Sounds of the Motherland backing vocalist Wadzanai Wanai Ndudzo will on Thursday launch her second album at Jazz 24/7.

The 28 year old lass who parted with her former band to start a solo career has moved from her initial sound which focused on jazz only to bring in a diverse sound that caters for different audiences.

Wanai told Showbiz this week that she realised it was important for her to cater for different audiences if she is to make it in the cut throat industry.

The second album titled Shinga/Hold on will interestingly carry a collaboration with Chipfumo a departure from the recent acrimonious ‘divorce’ between Jah Prayzah and former dancer Gonyeti who has since started her own band.

“I was never full time, I performed with him whenever I had the time to perform with him but when I left we were in good books. He is even on one of my tracks and will be present at the launch,” she said.

Shinga/Hold on is a message that besides God helping you, one has to work hard.”
Wanai has just recently started doing music fulltime having been into various small trades.

Despite the high flying Mudhara vachauya album by Jah Prayzah which seems to be reigning supreme on the local scene, Wanai feels she is in no competition with him.

“He is male and I am female, we do not compete and we are not in the same league I am a woman so I am hoping for the best. Of course he brings in a challenge especially with the several gigs that are lined up among them Mafikizolo and Max Vidima at the weekend but I hope I will be able to beat everyone to the chase since I will be launch on Thursday and everyone else comes in later,” she said.
