Prominent Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivhayo has categorically denied the authenticity of an audio recording in which he allegedly confesses to “capturing” President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chivhayo has dismissed the recording as a “deep fake” fabricated by his former business partners.
Speaking exclusively to Expose News, the embattled tycoon also refuted claims that he had instructed bloggers who had received cars from him to defend him in the aftermath of the audio leak.
“I am a well-accomplished businessman of international repute with multi-million dollar business interests across Africa. I have no interest whatsoever in seeking the assistance of mere bloggers to ‘defend’ me in fabricated matters such as the one you are referring to,” Chivhayo said.
He further asserted that if he needed to defend himself, he had “an impressive team of the best lawyers in the world” on standby, rather than having to rely on bloggers.
Chivhayo accused his former associates, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, of fabricating the audio recording in an attempt to extort him through a “smear campaign.”
“The so-called ‘leaked audio’ is a fabrication by well-known fraudsters and extortionists who are hoping to profiteer through a smear campaign against me. It is part of a grand scheme to intimidate me through unlawful means with the hope that I can pay them in exchange for their silence,” Chivhayo stated.
The businessman maintained that if he has conducted himself in a manner that violates the law or any agreement, he is prepared to defend himself in a court of law, rather than seeking the assistance of bloggers.
Chivhayo also addressed his philanthropic work, stating that his donations are never conditional and that recipients are not obligated to assist him in any way as a form of gratitude for his generosity.
