Will the “real” Alexio please stand up!

Alexio Kawara certain to rise again

Will the “real” Alexio please stand up!

By Peter Tinashe Kaviya

Alexio Kawara’s latest single seems more than just harmonic song set out to break the monotony following his last release Tose in 2011.

An accident in 2013 which rendered the artiste unfit for duty and a misunderstanding with an SA based studio that delayed the release of his album threatened to remove the artiste from the musical roll call he seems more determined than ever.

The lyrics in his latest single mirror a strong and optimistic man prompting the question will Kawara rise again and claim his rightful place in the hall of musical greats?

Release of the charts busting Shaina off his 2008 album Kana seemed to be his big break, but instead a lengthy period of ‘darkness’ followed with the artiste failing to reach the same heights Shaina had.

The Glen Norah bred crooner has since released two other singles Zva Zvinhu and Nehana as a way of announcing his return from a sabbatical and also as a preview of his forthcoming album due mid 2017 but it is the lyrics in his latest offering that speak volumes of the artiste.

To those with a good musical ear, the lyrics in the latest single titled Hatidzoreke are not just funky and well-arranged but rather a revelation of the man’s strong spirit, desires and determination.

“Hatiputsike zvekumhanya,
Hazvireruke but ibhanya,
Hatikwate kuti rima ranyanya,
Pagomo kamwenje tokabatidza,
Hationdeswe nezvinotidzvanya,
Hativhiringwe nezvinotikanya,
Zvigutswa ndozvakatichenjedza paya,
Tirikugadzira ngano yakatoita….Hatidzoreke”…goes part of the song.

“Ndirime ndirime musana wandidzimba,
Ndirime kusvika musana usisade”…further declares Alexio.

Recorded at 3D’s Harmony Studios and featuring greats like Enock Piroro among many other seasoned artistes, Alexio believes the track is an inspirational song that is meant to expose another dimension of his art.

“Hatidzoreke is an inspirational song that we started recording last year has the same message as Shaina but with a different style. It is mainly a dance song with a lot of slang which I hope inspires many people and in the process also shows the different dimension of art,” Alexio said.
While admitting the playing field has changed since his last offering, Alexio believes he poses the necessary skills to rise again and claim his rightful crown.

“Things have changed, but I will rise again, I believe a true artiste never dies and I have learnt a lot form listening to music and studying trends as they unfold, what makes me great is my ability to appreciate other artistes and genres and in the process learn a lot,” he said.

“Some artistes have come and made their names but I believe there is nothing called overtaking in art, we all have different growth rates, I still perform my very first songs and audiences love them. I think that says a something about my journey so far and my music.”

Alexio is one of the brave pioneers of the urban grooves movement that challenged the dominance of adult contemporary when he released the song Amai with the group Guess before his solo debut album titled Usazondisiya which carried the hit song Chibvugubvugu.

His journey has been one of timeless classics that saw him win many awards at ZIMA and NAMA among many other achievements.

His current status is opposite of his works and potential with fans asking if the real Alexio, the hit maker will rise again.

And in song Alexio Kawara’s response is Hatidzoreke (I can’t be stopped).
