Yet another Jamaican dying to come to Zimbabwe
By Showbiz Writer
After the confession by Morgan Heritage recently that every Jamaican’s dream was to come to Zimbabwe, it is no longer difficult to fathom that yet another reggae and dancehall artiste is yearning to come to Zimbabwe.
While he might still be unknown to most, he concedes like Morgan Heritage; he loves Zimbabwean “culture and music”.
This time it is Dwayne Forrester aka Dwayno who will be coming to Zimbabwe on December 1 for two gigs in Bulawayo and Harare.
The artiste who started off writing for other singers like D’angel, Voicemail group and Buju Banton among others has so far done a few collaborations with Nox, Jah Noz and Guspy Warrior.
“I was born in Jamaica and have travelled to several countries to perform but I just love the Zimbabwean culture and music,” he said.
“I have friends that are DJs in Zimbabwe that introduced Zim dancehall and Zim artistes to me and I love it.”
Among the ”ambassadors are Iron Lady, Archy Banks, Abbra Simmz and rising citizen journalist and DJ Ghetto Journalist.
Born Dwayne Forrester in St. Catherine Jamaica, describes himself as a humble, self-motivated, talented and articulate reggae and dancehall artiste.
“The development of my unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence, surrounded by different forms of music in the Old Harbour community that I grew up in but it was at 16 that I decided to turn my passions and aspirations to music,” he said.
His parents Sydney and Rebecca Forrester nine brothers and two sisters, he said, are proud of his choice to use his talents as a musician to warm the hearts of the people.
“In the early stages as a young enthusiast I started to show versatility through the composition of hits for D’angel, the famous face Voicemail Group and even the legend Buju Banton. I am also known for my works with Oneil from Voicemail – who was also one of my mentors and had played an essential role in my development as an artiste that I am.
He said he also owed his success to Different Medz Entertainment and his well knitted associates who also reside in the St. Catherine area of Jamaica.
Introduced via his first major performance at Sting in…, the event that has been dubbed over the years as the greatest one night reggae event in the world.
“Many others followed like the Galiday bounce – (performance alongside Oniel fr. Voicemail) and countless others. At beginning of 2012 I was one of the most talked about dancehall artistes world wide – with my smash underground hit Don A Road Don A Jail a tribute to my mentor Vybz Kartel,” he said.
Dwayno said his aim was to take his career to the highest level as he also sought to educate his fellow artistes by trying to play a clean and influential role in society.
