The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) board has delivered a firm ultimatum to its former CEO, Ms. Adelaide Chikunguru, amidst an escalating dispute on social media. Threatening legal action, the board has demanded that Chikunguru formalize her grievances in court within 48 hours.
Chikunguru, who resigned from her role at the State broadcaster on March 1st, has been outspoken online, accusing the board of violating her contract and airing other grievances.
Responding to her allegations, the ZBC board issued a statement, urging Chikunguru to take her complaints through proper legal channels. They emphasized her 48-hour window to follow through on her threats of legal action. Failure to comply would prompt the board to seek a High Court injunction, compelling her to cease discussing the matter publicly.

The statement reads: “The board advises Ms. Chikunguru to pursue her claims, if any, through the due process of the law and notes her continued suggestion that her lawyers have been briefed.
The board publicly states that there is no substance in the allegations against the board and the corporation. To this end, the board invites her to execute her threats of resort to law against the corporation within the next 48 hours.
In the event that she does not do so, the board reserves the right to approach the High Court for a decree of perpetual silence calling upon her to bring the threatened legal action or forever keep her peace.
This decision is necessary to protect the continuing harm to the corporation’s interests and those of its stakeholders.”
Ms. Chikunguru was suspended on February 28th pending investigations into allegations against her. However, she resigned prior to the commencement of the investigation, which the board had assured would be conducted independently and impartially.
Despite this, Chikunguru took to social media to claim that the accusations against her were fabricated, alleging they were part of a personal and politicized agenda by specific individuals.
