ZIFF calls for 2016 submission

ZIMBABWE International Film Festival Trust (ZIFFT) has opened submissions for the 18th edition of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF) that is expected to roar into life on October 1 through to October 8 in Harare.

The festival director, Elton Mjanana said the fete will be held under the theme Reel, Sound and Music as a special focus on sound and music in film production.

“This year, our theme is a special focus on sound and music in producing films. However, other films that do not fit into this purview theme will still be included,” Mjanana said.
“We are encouraging a strong participation of quality that favourably compares with international films. Application forms can be downloaded from the ZIFF website (http://www.zifft.org/professionals/) ahead of the August 31 deadline.”
Mjanana said they were looking at screening about 150 to 200 films from around the world.
At the festival, filmmakers will be rewarded in the different categories including the best feature, best screen play, best director, best actor in a leading role, best actress, special jury prize, best documentary (best film, director and special jury prize) and best short (best film, director, actor, actress and special prize).

The Zimbabwe International Film Festival has a rich history of championing the growth of the local film industry.

It was established in 1997; and is dedicated to the discovery and development of filmmakers and contributing to vibrant, socially and politically relevance.

To date the products of the festival includes the likes of Rumbi Katedza, the late Alan Muwani , Nakai Matema among others.

Meanwhile, local filmmakers have bemoaned the death of the industry due to non funding from government.
