The Egyptian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Salwa Mowafi, hosted a celebratory event to mark Egypt‘s Revolution Day which was attended by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frederick Shava, who delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the enduring bond of friendship between the two nations.
Minister Shava highlighted the significant achievements in Egypt’s journey towards social and economic development, as well as the country’s impressive contribution culture, literature, science, and governance. He also emphasized the importance of preserving natural wonders, such as the Great Pyramid of Gaza and Zimbabwe’s own Victoria Falls, also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya.
The Minister also addressed the pressing challenges of the time, which include global security, climate change, and social and economic disparities. In the face of these challenges, he emphasized the importance of cooperation, saying, “We will continue to tackle these challenges together, guided by mutual respect, understanding, and shared responsibility.”

Furthermore, Minister Shava reiterated Zimbabwe’s support for the Palestinian people, stating that Zimbabwe believes in the right of the Palestinian people to exist as a nation. He expressed concern over the situation in Gaza and called for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, supporting the two-state solution.
He also praised the growing economic cooperation between the two nations, citing President Mnangagwa’s approach to building a stronger partnership and highlighting the joint projects and initiatives that have strengthened the bilateral relationship, including infrastructure development and cultural exchanges.
In particular, Minister Shava noted that Zimbabwe and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation in the fields of planning, design, construction, and management of the city in Mt. Hampden. This partnership aims to achieve tangible and sustainable infrastructural development, following the example of President Mnangagwa’s “brick by brick” approach.
Minister Shava also acknowledged Egypt’s historical support for Zimbabwe’s liberation movement, noting that Egypt provided material support and solidarity during the struggle for independence. He also mentioned that President Mnangagwa spent a few weeks in Egypt on his way to China, highlighting the strong ties between the two nations.
In a gesture of solidarity and cooperation, Egypt has provided significant medical assistance to Zimbabwe in June 2024, including a generous donation of cholera vaccines and other essential medical supplies. This timely support has bolstered Zimbabwe’s efforts to combat the cholera outbreak and strengthen its healthcare system. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for this donation, emphasizing the tangible impact of Egypt’s support on the lives of Zimbabweans.
The event marked a significant moment in the bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Egypt, which have flourished in recent years through economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
