The Ministry of Health and Childcare has released its latest Weekly Disease Report, providing an update on various illnesses affecting communities across Zimbabwe.
Influenza/Common Cold
A total of 3,912 suspected cases of influenza or the common cold were recorded this week, with no reported fatalities. The highest case numbers were observed in Manicaland (1,439 cases) and Mashonaland East (967 cases). The cumulative total now stands at 13,471 suspected cases, with no deaths reported so far.
Measles
Authorities documented seven suspected cases of measles, with no deaths. These cases were distributed as follows: Harare (3 cases), Mashonaland Central (2 cases), Mashonaland East (1 case), and Mashonaland West (1 case). The cumulative total has now reached 34 suspected cases, with no fatalities.
Common Diarrhoea
A total of 8,464 cases of common diarrhoea were recorded this week, with no deaths. Children under five years old accounted for 3,358 cases. The most affected regions were Mashonaland Central (1,178 cases) and Mashonaland East (1,157 cases). The cumulative total now stands at 35,265 cases, with 17 fatalities.
Malaria
Zimbabwe recorded 2,009 malaria cases this week, alongside six fatalities. The highest number of infections were in Manicaland (824 cases) and Mashonaland West (527 cases). Fatalities were reported in Mutare (2 deaths), and one death each in Chimanimani, Buhera, Rushinga, and Makonde. So far, 5,710 cases have been reported this year, with 17 deaths, bringing the case fatality rate (CFR) to 0.3%.

Cholera
A total of 24 suspected cholera cases and one suspected death were recorded this week. The majority of cases (23 out of 24) were reported in Mazowe District. No confirmed cases or deaths have been recorded so far. The cumulative total for suspected cases now stands at 107, with one suspected fatality.
Dysentery
Health officials documented 545 cases of dysentery this week, with no fatalities. The most affected provinces were Mashonaland Central (114 cases) and Mashonaland West (97 cases). The cumulative total now stands at 2,416 cases, with one death.
Typhoid
No new suspected cases or deaths from typhoid were recorded this week. The cumulative total remains at two suspected cases, with no reported fatalities, keeping the CFR at 0%.
Authorities continue to monitor these outbreaks and urge citizens to practice good hygiene and seek medical attention if symptoms arise.
